The geothermal field of Neo Erasmio

The area of Neo Erasmio region at Xanthi is geographically located on the eastern banks of the Nestos River delta and belongs to the sedimentary area of the Prinos - W. Nestos basin, which in turn developed in the geotectonic zone of the Rhodope massif. The surrounding localized geothermal field that develops from S. Erasmio of Xanthi is a typical example of a low-enthalpy geothermal field where stratified aquifers are fed by a system of active faults in the basement of the Rhodope zone. Based on extensive geothermal investigations, it was established that the main geothermal anomaly develops over an area of 15-20 km2 with geothermal gradient values reaching 25°C/100 m. with a correspondingly high heat flow and such a quality and chemical composition of geothermal fluids that gives special characteristics and typology to the specific geothermal community.
